A South Korean court judgment found that an operator of an illegal Lineage private server bought and used a security-bypass executable from a North Korean hacker identified as “Eric,” or Oh Sung-hyuk. The excerpt says Eric led a development team at the Rungnado Information Center under a Room 39-linked trade organization and produced a file that disabled Lineage’s security program so users could reach the private server. The operator communicated with Eric over QQ, phone, and email, allegedly asked him about hacking or DDoS attacks against rival private servers, and sent six payments totaling 23.8 million won to a Chinese bank account. The case matters for DPRK tracking because it links game-sector cybercrime tooling and private-server monetization to a North Korean foreign-currency earning channel rather than a conventional espionage intrusion.
