SBS reported that Kimsuky targeted a South Korean journalist who covers North Korea by impersonating a National Assembly Research Service official. The actor sent an invitation to a Korean Peninsula peace system meeting, used an email address differing by one letter from the real official's account, and later delivered a password protected attachment after the journalist replied. Genians analyzed the file and said its code matched Kimsuky techniques seen since the 2014 Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power incident. The report warned that execution could give the attacker broad control of the PC, including credential theft, monitoring of user activity, access to reporting material and messages, and possible follow on mobile compromise if the victim shared a phone number.
