South Korean police attributed a 2022 malicious email campaign against security, diplomacy, unification, and defense experts to a North Korean hacking organization commonly tracked as Kimsuky. The attackers impersonated unification and security experts during South Korea's government transition period and sent phishing emails to about 150 former officials, professors, and policy specialists. Investigators found 138 compromised servers used for email delivery, phishing-site hosting, stolen-data transmission, and IP laundering, and identified nine victims whose mailboxes, attachments, and address books were accessed in real time.
