Bithumb updated customers on the June 20 incident, saying the initially announced cryptocurrency theft of about 35 billion KRW was being reduced through ongoing recovery work. The exchange stated that customer cryptocurrency and KRW assets were separated from company assets and kept in cold wallets and bank accounts, while the stolen amount would be covered from company funds. To prevent further cyberattacks, Bithumb said it was moving cryptocurrency balances to cold wallets, replacing the wallet system, and strengthening security with network and security specialists. The company also described a joint investigation with KISA, the National Police Agency, AhnLab, and other security professionals to identify the cause and improve defenses, but did not attribute the incident to a specific threat actor.
