South Korean government reporting said the March 4 DDoS attacks used an estimated 77,207 zombie PCs after removing duplicate IPs across three attack waves. The second wave alone involved 51,434 infected machines, exceeding the peak size of the comparable second wave in the earlier July 7 DDoS incident. Authorities identified 738 suspected malware distribution or command-related IPs across 72 countries and moved to block them through KISA and ISPs. The same malware campaign was linked to 119 reported hard-disk damage cases, although officials cautioned that confirming the malware as the cause was difficult because damaged disks were hard to recover or verify.
