PeckShield traced the March 24, 2019 DragonEX exchange theft and estimated that $6.03 million in more than 20 digital assets was stolen. Researchers assessed that the attackers likely obtained DragonEX wallet private keys and illegal server API access, then moved assets through a theft phase and a laundering phase. About $929,000 had already been transferred into other exchanges while roughly $5.1 million remained in attacker-controlled wallets; examples in the source include USDT routed through CoinBene, KuCoin, and BitForex and TRX ultimately moved to Binance. The report emphasizes rapid exchange and community interception because most stolen funds were still potentially recoverable.
