The Justice Department announced an international takedown of ChipMixer, a darknet cryptocurrency mixer accused of laundering more than $3 billion in bitcoin for ransomware crews, darknet markets, fraud shops and state-sponsored hacking schemes. Court documents cited over $700 million in bitcoin tied to stolen-funds wallets, including proceeds from North Korean cyber actors’ Axie Infinity Ronin Bridge and Harmony Horizon Bridge heists. The operation seized two ChipMixer domains, a GitHub account, back-end servers and more than $46 million in cryptocurrency, while charging alleged operator Minh Quốc Nguyễn with money laundering, operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business and identity theft.
