SBS reported that Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, a South Korean defense contractor that builds naval submarines and Aegis destroyers, had suffered a third hacking incident. A government source said the internal network was compromised in October 2021 and that DAPA, the National Intelligence Service, and the Defense Security Support Command were conducting a joint investigation. Investigators were still determining the intrusion path, but the source said the technique led them to weigh the possibility of North Korean involvement. The incident raised concern because the company built the Dosan Ahn Chang-ho submarine used in South Korea’s SLBM test and has reportedly worked on nuclear-powered submarine research.
