Two U.S. nationals helped DPRK remote IT workers pose as U.S.-based employees by receiving company laptops, hosting them at their residences, and installing remote desktop software for overseas co-conspirators. The Justice Department said the separate schemes generated more than $1.2 million for North Korea and affected nearly 70 U.S. victim companies. Erick Ntekereze Prince used Taggcar Inc. to supply purportedly certified IT workers while knowing they were outside the United States and using false or stolen identities. In Prince’s case, DPRK IT workers obtained more than $943,069 in salary payments from more than 64 U.S. companies, while victim firms incurred over $1 million in audit and remediation costs.
