The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia said Alexander Paul Travis, Jason Salazar, and Audricus Phagnasay were sentenced after pleading guilty to a wire-fraud conspiracy that enabled overseas IT workers to use U.S. identities for remote jobs. The defendants let workers create false resumes in their names, pass vetting steps such as video interviews, drug testing, and fingerprinting, open bank accounts, and remotely access employer laptops through unauthorized software. Prosecutors said the scheme generated about $1.28 million in salary payments from victim U.S. companies, most of which went to overseas IT workers, and tied the activity to North Korean sanctions evasion and revenue generation for weapons programs.
